Answer:
There were two upgrades to the MacBook Pro family in 2008 - one in February and another in October. The MacBook Pro 15 from February 2008 has a max memory capacity of 6GB. However, if you have the MacBook Pro 15 from October 2008 you can in fact upgrade to 8GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM. The MacBook Pro 17 upgrades from 2008 both have a maximum capacity of 6GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
